Violence Against Women

Roles: research, ideation, wire-framing

An infographic designed to raise awareness on violence against women across the globe.

The Brief

With a focus on raw data, facts and figures, create an infographic focusing on a subject specific to the world around us.

Research

I feel very personally attached to this topic, being a young woman myself and growing up with many female figures in my life who have faced violence and harassment. It is a difficult subject for some, especially those that have been victimised, but I feel that it needs to be talked about more in order to raise awareness of the subject, and how women are being treated inhumanely on a daily basis, on a global scale.

I began my research by looking across websites and finding statistics based around violence towards women.

Inspiration

I began to ask myself the question - what makes a good infographic? To answer this, I needed to look into the work of existing successful infographics. I used websites such as Pinterest to grow my inspiration, and to explore a wide range of existing designs to draw ideas from.

Wireframing

I began to sketch out different wireframe designs for my infographic. I wanted to be able to properly convey my information in a serious, informative but new way. I decided to go with a design that was illustration-based, and statistic based, so that I could convey my statistics and purpose visually instead of through text.

Data Visualisation

The next step in my project was to create a visuals to portray my data and statistics. These were the most vital part of my infographic, as this would be the part that would draw people in. I wanted to keep it simple, but to also portray how terrible these facts are. It needed to feel like a safe space for women and those wanting to educate themselves, but to also show people the harsh horrors of reality.

Mock-Up

As my project came together, I created a final mock-up of the finished piece.

Takeaway

I believe I was able to reach my goal in creating a infographic based around the world around us, and was able to treat a serious topic with a strong sense of style while still being informative and supportive of the cause.
